Ron Birnbaum is a physician, Navy veteran, and progressive political activist in Los Angeles. He has dedicated his career as a dermatologist to providing care for the underserved in Los Angeles and teaching residents and medical students to do the same. As an activist, he has served on the steering committee of Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP), Southern California Chapter and that of PNHP-California; he is also active in the leadership of Health Care for All, Los Angeles. Dr. Birnbaum has represented his part of Los Angeles as a delegate in the Democratic Party at the County, State, and National levels, the latter at the 2020 Democratic National Convention, pledged to Senator Bernie Sanders. A member of the Union of American Physicians and Dentists (Local 206), Dr. Birnbaum ran for the California Assembly in 2017, foregrounding in that campaign the need to transform California into a single payer state.
